How to Choose Anchor Text for Guest Posts

Anchor text is the visible text of a link. In guest posts, the strongest editorial choice is usually the phrase a natural writer would use to help the reader understand the destination—not the keyword with the highest commercial value.

Natural first

Write the sentence before deciding on the anchor. The link should fit the prose rather than bending the prose around a phrase.

Useful anchor types

Brand names, URL-style anchors, descriptive partial phrases, titles, and natural contextual language can all be appropriate.

Avoid repetition

Repeated exact-match commercial anchors across many placements create an artificial pattern and often read badly.

Match destination

The anchor should accurately set expectations for what the reader will find after clicking.
